The device has at least one conveying channel (4) and is part of a horizontal supply system. The channel contains at least one hauling unit (18) to move the boxes (11). Each box has coupling elements (12,13) on an end face (14). The hauling unit has a coupling device (20) to engage with the elements, a control unit to switch it, and a positive drive acting with a guide rail in the channel. The guide rail is a toothed rack and acts with toothed gears on the drive.
