An electrodynamic torque converter for transmitting a continuously variable, adjustable, variable torque between two shafts (1,2) has devices (4-8) provided to store and extract electrical energy. A winding set (10-14) is connected to each of the two shafts.A further winding set (12,15) is provided which is coupled to a housing (3,16). The winding sets are arranged parallel to the axes of the two shafts and also normal to them. An electronic control unit (4) is provided with which the desired torque transmission or the transmission ratio can be adjusted by a suitable control of the winding sets in continuously variable fashion.
