The invention relates to a novel method for producing substituted benzenes of formula (I) wherein R<1>, R<2>, R<3>, R<4>, R<5> and R<6> have the meanings given in the description by reacting cyclohexa-2,5-diene-1-carboxylic acid derivatives of formula (II) with acid, optionally in the presence of a diluting agent.
