Procedure for limiting maximum hydraulic pressure of motor vehicle's powered steering system

A limiting value for the maximum hydraulic pressure is predetermined and from it is calculated a limiting value for the maximum current consumption. The current consumption of the electric motor driving the hydraulic pump is measured, and when the upper limiting value is exceeded through the flow rate of the hydraulic fluid the RPM of the motor is reduced to limit the current consumption. The upper limiting value for the maximum hydraulic pressure is fixed above a maximum working pressure but below a maximum cracking pressure of a relief valve.
