FIELD: tobacco industry. SUBSTANCE: method involves exposing tobacco to reduced pressure below 7 kPa in working chamber; impregnating tobacco cellular structure with vaporous isopentane at temperature of 70-100 C and maintaining tobacco in contact with vaporous isopentane under pressure of at least 400 kPa; withdrawing excessive amount of isopentane from working chamber; bringing impregnated tobacco into contact with water vapors for expanding tobacco cellular structure; reducing pressure in working chamber at rate of at least 10 kPa/min, preferably at rate of 30 kPa/min; ventilating working chamber to the initial state, i.e. to atmospheric pressure. Ultimate value of filling capacity of tobacco treated according to such method is in direct proportion to pressure reduction rate in working chamber upon treating tobacco with water vapors.
