Counter device for selectable hold and reset operations

The counter device has a counter unit (10), and a mode selection unit (20) which detects the duration of the high level state of a count enable signal (CNTEN), and resets the counter unit accordingly. A control unit (30) enables or disables the counter unit. A verification unit (40) detects a desired counter value and holds the counter accordingly. An Independent claim is included for a method of counting.
