The powered screwdriver has a release ring (36) mounted on the drive shaft (30) against a stop (47). A first spring (45) between the cam ring (50) and release ring is tensioned around the cam ring onto the drive gear (72). A claw (51) is positioned on the second side of the cam ring to cooperate with a second claw on the release ring.
