The condenser has a core region (23) with pipes through which the coolant/refrigerant flows horizontally, a first vertical collection container (21) connected to one end of the pipes, a second vertical collection container (22) connected to the other end of the pipes, a holding unit (31) for separating distribution of gaseous and liquid coolant/refrigerant and for holding the liquid coolant/refrigerant and a separator (29a) in the second collection container dividing it into upper and lower chambers. The holding unit is made in one piece with the second collection container to form a connecting channel (30) connected to the second collection chamber so that coolant/refrigerant condensed in the core region passes through the lower chamber of the collection container.
