A fingerprinting method and a device therefor are disclosed. The method essentially comprises the steps of applying a developer powder with phosphorescent properties onto the fingerprint (1) on any substrate (2), adequately illuminating the fingerprint, forming a darkened region at least over the portion of the substrate (2) which bears the fingerprint (1), taking one or more pictures of the darkened fingerprint (1), and displaying, filing, processing, editing, transmitting and/or scanning the resulting pictures.
