SUBSTITUTED POLYANILINES AND THEIR PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce new compounds capable of opening the possibility of developing a polyaniline as an electroconductive polymer and having a new function imparted thereto by introducing a substituent group such as a liquid crystalline substituent group into the side chain of the polyaniline. SOLUTION: The compounds are represented by formula I [R is a liquid crystalline or another substituent group; R1 is substituent group different from R; (k) is 0-4], e.g. poly[[2-(4-(4-pentylcyclohexyl)phenoxy)-n-decyloxy]aniline]- emeraldine. The compounds represented by formula I are produced by polymerizing anilines represented by formula II and then introducing the liquid crystalline or the other substituent group R into the position of N in the resultant polyanilines represented by formula III according to, e.g. a method for sodiating the position of N and subsequently reacting the resultant compound with a compound represented by the formula R-Br such as [p-(trans-4-pentylcyclohexyl) phenoxy]-6-n-bromohexane.
