In a process and assembly to treat vehicle wash effluent water, the water is first drained to a sand trap from which it is then fed to a sludge treatment tank (18). The developing sludge (20) is treated with ozone, the waste water being forced along the filter sidewalls under pressure. Treated water from the sludge tank (18) is discharged to a holding tank (21). Water is drawn from the holding tank and is then subjected to further treatment with ozone, prior to return to the holding tank (21). The ozone treatment consists of both ozone-oxidation and ozone-floatation.
