The airbag has at least one seam(12) by which several layers of the airbag(10) are sewn together at least with the airbag in its folded state. When the airbag is inflated the seam ruptures. The seam is designed so that the airbag is inflatable to its maximum expansion quicker in the radial inflation directions than in directions perpendicular to it, which in a vehicle corresponds to the direction towards the vehicle's occupant. An Independent claim is included for a procedure for the manufacture of an inflatable airbag in which several layers are sewn together by at least one seam which ruptures when the airbag inflates.
