Baggage transport system carries individual items of luggage in separate carriages which run on rails and are moved by linear motor

Each carriage (2) has an inclined open tray which carries one piece of luggage. The carriage is supported on running rails (1) by caster wheels (3). The carriage also has guide wheels (4) underneath which run on a guide rail (5). Each carriage has a large plate of metal on its underside. Linear motor stators are set between the rails at intervals along the track. The stator coils induce eddy currents in the metal plate causing the carriage to move along the track.
