PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyester fiber, capable of industrially stably producing the polyester fiber consisting mainly of polytrimethylene terephthalate and having excellent flexibility in good productivity. SOLUTION: This method for producing a polyester fiber comprises melt- spinning a polyester consisting mainly of polytrimethylene terephthalate through a spinneret 1, once cooling and solidifying the spun yarn Y, allowing the solidified yarn to pass through a cylindrical heating device 3 having an inner atmospheric temperature of 120-220 deg.C to thermally treat the yarn, again cooling the yarn, taking off the yarn at a taking rate of >=3,000 m/min, applying a relaxed thermal treatment to the taken yarn at a relaxation rate of 4-12% and subsequently winding up the treated yarn.
