The invention relates to a method for moving a vehicle part between at least two positions and to a drive device for implementing said method. The vehicle part is driven by an electric motor (10). A pulse signal corresponding to the rotational movement of the electric motor (10) is generated and fed to a control unit (24) for controlling the electric motor (10). The input time of each signal into the control unit (24) is detected and the actual force exerted on the vehicle part is estimated from at least part of said measured time at given extrapolation times in-between two such input times, wherein said estimated value is used as a criterion for deciding whether or not the electric motor (10) should be disconnected or reversed.
