An apparatus for charging a commodity into pre-made bag and closing bag 32 when charged comprises a rotatable carrousel, a plurality of hoppers 60 movably mounted to the carrousel and a bag handling means 50 mounted to the carrousel for gripping bag 32, opening bag 32 and closing bag 32 when charged with the commodity. Cam means 104 is mounted to the apparatus along which hoppers 60 move for relative movement between a hopper 60 and a bag having an open mouth to be charged with the commodity. A method of filling a pre-made bag with a commodity employing a rotatable carrousel is also claimed.
