PLASMA DISPLAY PANEL OF ALTERNATING CURRENT WITH A SURFACE DISCHARGE AND METHOD OF DRIVING OF IT

PURPOSE: A plasma display panel of alternating current with a surface discharge is provided to improve a brightness ratio and a power ratio. CONSTITUTION: The plasma display panel comprises in each pixel (1) three parallel electrodes (2, 3, 4), one of them being an address electrode (4), and drive electrodes (7) being perpendicular to them, separated by dielectric barrier ribs, whereas the improvement consists in that the geometric parameters of electrodes, discharge gaps and gas filling are determined from the condition need for execution of a surface discharge by sustaining voltage pulses in the pixel (1) between two extreme parallel electrodes (2, 3) over address electrode (4) arranged between them. When the discharge gap length is increased in the luminescence area, power does not increase but brightness is improved. The ratio of brightness of new/standard and the ratio of power new/standard becomes 1.1 - 2.3 times better.
