PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make pushing a battery-assisted bicycle easy by outputting push- assisting power to the electric motor in accordance with factors such as the physical strength and physical condition of the person pushing it and the condition of the road. SOLUTION: The battery-assisted bicycle is equipped with both a man- powered drive system and a drive system relying on an electric motor 11, in which the drive power of the electric motor 11 assists the man-powered drive system and the drive when the bicycle is being pushed. The electrically assisted bicycle is provided with the following items: a rotary lever 24 located close to the grip on the handlebar; a displacement detecting mechanism 29 that detects the degree of displacement of the rotary lever 24; and a controller 18 that controls the push-assisting power generated by the electric motor 11 in accordance with changes in the output voltage of this displacement detecting mechanism 29.
