The process consists of a first step in which the traverse (9) is taken from a position parallel to the cylinder (6), in which the cleaning device (8) cannot move out, to an angled position relative to it, in which the cleaning device is guided by the traverse past the outside of the side wall (22) or through an aperture in it and out. In the second step, the cleaning device is moved along the traverse and out of the press (1).
