The invention relates to a hot radiator comprising at least one metal surface that emits electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths in the visible and infra-red spectral range. The invention is characterized in that the metal surface has a microstructure with elevations and recesses, whereby the structural shape and depth thereof is chosen in such a way that an electromagnetic field distribution is obtained close to the surface. In the case of resonance with a microstructure, said distribution leads to an increased emission capacity of the electromagnetic radiation thus emitted.
