PURPOSE: A variable length code decoder for MPEG is provided to form a variable length code decoder having a data processing speed corresponding to 32 bits data-path by improving a parsing and decoding speed for 16 or more bits MPEG data. CONSTITUTION: A parsing control unit(70) reads data outputted from a barrel shifter(30), determines whether the data are normal data or 16 bits or more data, and outputs a control signal. The second multiplexer(120) receives directly the data outputted from the barrel shifter(30) among a register(40), a header detection unit(50), and a symbol decoding unit(60), selects necessary data according to a control operation of the parsing control unit(70), and the selected data outputs to the header detection unit(50), the parsing control unit(70), and a seizing unit(80).
