PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain a high speed for multivalue processing by an error diffusion method. SOLUTION: Image data arranged two-dimensionally in X and Y directions are multivalued through parallel processing using two CPUs by an error diffusion method. The 1st CPU multivalues pixel strings of the image data sequentially by the error diffusion method along and X direction. An error confirming pixel where an error diffused in response to progress of the processing by the 1st CPU is perfectly confirmed, appears on a pixel string adjacent to the pixel string processed by the 1st CPU. The 2nd CPU multivalues the error confirming pixel by the error diffusion method in parallel with the processing by the 1st CPU. The multivaluing is carried out at a high speed by the error diffusion method through the parallel processing. Since the error confirming pixel appears on a pixel string adjacent to the processed pixel string furthermore is response to progress of the processing by the 2nd CPU, three processing sets or over may be executed in parallel.
