PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain maximum contact-avoiding effect by harmonizing automatic braking for avoiding contact with an object and the voluntary steering operation of a driver. SOLUTION: When a driver performs steering operation of his own accord to avoid contact during the execution of automatic braking by an automatic braking means M2 on the basis of the estimation of contact possibility between an own vehicle and an object estimated by a contact possibility estimating means M1, an automatic braking release gradient is computed on the basis of the contact possibility estimated by the contact possibility estimating means M1 and the steering operation quantity detected by a steering operation quantity detecting means M3, and automatic braking is released at the speed corresponding to the automatic braking release gradient. The automatic braking release gradient is set large to rapidly release automatic braking in the case of being easy to avoid contact by steering operation and set small to slowly release automatic braking in the case of being difficult to avoid contact.
