PURPOSE: Derivatives of sialyl-Lewis X and A, in which the natural neuraminic acid residue and the natural N-acetylglucosamine monomer are replaced. CONSTITUTION: Provided are mimetic of sialyl-Lewis X and A, in which, in the natural tetrasaccharide, the neuraminic acid residue is replaced by an S-configured methyl substituted with one carboxyl residue and one other substituent and the natural N-acetyl group in the N-acetylglucosamine monomer is replaced by a variety of different aliphatic and aromatic substituents or the N-acetylglucosamine residue is replaced by a tetrahydropyran derivative, to processes for the preparation of these compounds, to their use as a pharmaceutical and to pharmaceutical compositions comprising them.
