PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital broadcast receiver with a small circuit scale and advantageous in the cost that provides no sense of incongruity to the user by obtaining a display image with vivid motion even for an unstable period when a format of a received broadcast is changed into other different format. SOLUTION: A final scene shown in Figure (1) is frozen before switching for an unstable period till a video decoder 2 normally decodes a broadcast with a new format, and a graphics circuit 7 continues displaying as shown in figures (2), (3) by, e.g. decreasing the contrast of a video image gradually. When the video decoder 2 starts outputting a video signal after the switching, a video image after the switching is being displayed as shown in figure (4).
