摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic endoscope which can control reduction of illumination quantity by automatically adjusting the light to appropriately maintain the luminance of the visual image of the diseased part such as of the force while a treatment such as forceps is used. SOLUTION: This electronic endoscope consists of a scope 10 with a treatment implement inserting passage 15 to insert a treatment implement and an image signal processing unit 12 to connect the scope 10 detachably. An imaging sensor 14 is attached at the top of the scope 10 and a light source 18 is installed inside the unit 12. The quantity of light guided from the light source to the scope is adjusted by a diaphragm 20. The luminance is calculated based on the luminance pixel signal obtained from the imaging sensor, and the diaphragm is controlled so that the calculated luminance substantially agrees with a prescribed reference value of the luminance. Whether the treatment implement is being used or not is judged with the scope, and when it is judged that the implement is being used, the prescribed reference value of the luminance is compulsorily increased by a prescribed value so that reduction of the illumination quality is controlled.
