PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption without operating a device uselessly by changing the operation quantity of a circuit for decoding and display processing in accordance with the connection with an external device. SOLUTION: A connection detecting means 112 detects that an external device 110 is in an unoperatable state such as because the device 110 is not connected or because power is not inputted even through the device 110 is connected and generates a detection signal 113 showing 'an unconnected or unoperatable state'. Although a decoding circuit 106 usually sends a video signal 114 for decoding by using the whole digital coded signals from a recording medium 105 to a display circuit 107, the circuit 106 performs decod by using only a part of the digital coded signals on the medium 105 when receiving the signal 113 showing 'an unconnected or unoperatable state'. And, it outputs a video signal 115 having smaller information than usual to the display circuit 107.
