Lacquer printing on a metal substrate involves etching surface pits and anodizing in a phosphoric acid electrolyte prior to lacquer application. The parent patent application (DE19830726.8) describes a process for printing a lacquer layer on a metallic substrate, especially of aluminum or aluminum alloy, by etching pits in the substrate surface, applying a corrosion protective layer without leveling the etch pits, applying and impressing a lacquer layer into the depressions formed by the etch pits and then preferably applying a paint or lacquer layer. In this patent of addition, the novelty is that the etched substrate is anodized for a few minutes at 20-70 deg C and at 15-60 V in a phosphoric acid electrolyte.
