PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the visual sense of incompatibility generated in a reproduced picture at the time of variable speed reproduction at the time of reproducing a narrow band analog video signal at a tape deep layer part when normal reproduction is switched to variable speed reproduction. SOLUTION: A wide band digital video signal from digital communication satellite is received in a digital broadcasting receiving device 100. A digital video signal is recorded in the surface layer part of a tape T, and a narrow band analog video signal generated from the digital video signal is recorded in the deep layer part of the tape T in a VCR 110. A control part 32 reproduces the digital video signal at the tape surface layer part at the time of normal reproduction, and reproduces the analog video signal at the tape deep layer part at the time of variable speed reproduction. A signal controlling part 11 converts the analog video signal reproduced from the tape deep layer part into a reduced picture signal corresponding to a small screen. This reduced picture is displayed on a display at the time of variable reproduction.
