PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a leather material having a characteristic such as a feeling of mildness of knitted fabrics different from an inherent characteristic of leather materials by making plural holes in the leather material and passing a yarn through the holes repeatedly in the upward and downward directions of the leather material. SOLUTION: The objective leather material is a leather material 11 having plural holes 12 and is obtained by passing a yarn 3 through the holes 12 repeatedly in the upward and downward directions of the leather material 11. Preferably, natural leather is especially used as a leather material with respect to a quality feeling. The holes 12 are readily formed by punching using, for example, an ordinary punching machine. Preferably, wool yarns used in production of knitted fabrics are used as the yarn 13. Since the wool yarns have a small initial amount of heat transfer and are soft, light in weight and warm, the wool yarns can impart the leather material having a cold feeling with an inherent feeling of mildness of the knitted fabrics to improve the wear feeling of the leather material. A designed yarn (a fancy yarn or an ornamental yarn), a processed yarn (a textured yarn), or the like, are used to improve the design characteristics such as touch and appearance or the functionality of the leather material.
