A system for reducing hydrodynamic drag and vortex-induced-vibration in a bluff hull (400). The bluff hull has an internal area (510) filled with water, and pumps (504) pump the water selectively to ones of vertically aligned slots (402). The water is ejected tangentially of the hull, and at a higher velocity than the current so as to reduce flow separation.
