PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a method for correcting image data that can optimize reading of an image from a large-sized sheet of paper by correcting the scatter of the overall characteristic of an optical system including a line image sensor. SOLUTION: The image reader where two line image sensors 1, 2 are provided utilizes the CCD output of an image read by both the image sensors 1, 2 to correct not only the deviation of the images at the joint of the images and also the magnification difference of lenses 3, 4 included in a optical reduction system, a deviation in the alignment and a difference in the detected light amt. of the image sensors 1, 2 in advance, thereby obtaining the best image data.
