PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To exhibit high safety and sufficient corrosion resistance by incorporating an aromatic compound having absorption band in a visual region of a specific wave length, colloidal silica, a film forming high polymer compound having at least one kind of -OH group and -COOH group in the molecule and an organic solvent. SOLUTION: The aromatic compound contains at least one kind among a group of -N=N-, >C:=N-, and -N=O and has the absorption band in the visual region of 530-750 nm and various kinds of dyes such as direct dye, acid dye are used. A liquid composition is prepared by blending 10-100 pts.wt. colloidal silica formed by dispersing silica superfine particles in water or alcohol and 1-500 pts.wt. high polymer compound such as polyvinyl butylal, polyacrylic acid in 100 pts.wt. aromatic compound and using the organic solvent such as hexane so that total concentration of the components is 0.1-25 wt.% and is applied on the surface of a metal such as iron or an iron based alloy necessary for rust preventing treatment to be used as a rust preventive composition.
