Optical device for gathering digital fingerprint by direct contact with finger for identification and verification

The device has an optical block (10) with a surface (12) on which the finger (14) is placed. Part of this surface carries a thin transparent electrode coated with an electroluminescent dielectric layer (34). A potential applied (36) between finger and electrode generates an electroluminescent image of part of the fingerprint. Continuity between this image and the optical image is tested.
