The assembly (10) to load and unload a board press (9), especially in the prodn. of multi-layer door blanks, has a moving cage (11) which rides vertically in a machine frame (12). The cage (11) moves along four columns (18), at each corner, with access for an operative at the longitudinal side away from the laying table (15) between the columns (18). The lateral take-off system has an assembly of at least two conveyor belts, which act in the space between the rollers of the roller path, to exert a grip on the underside of the board on the roller path in a given take-off plane.
