PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method for mass production of chips for a thixo-molding machine in an inexpensive manner, and a device therefor. SOLUTION: A molten magnesium alloy melted in a melting furnace 6 is fed from a feed port 7 to a solidifying roll 1. Since recessed parts are formed on the whole surface of the solidifying roll 1 in both longitudinal and transverse directions, a molten metal 3 fed to the solidifying roll 1 is solidified to a magnesium alloy sheet 4 whose thick-walled part is connected to a thin-walled part. When the magnesium alloy sheet 4 is passed through a pulverizing roll 2, it is cut by the thin-walled part to form chips 5 of unified dimensions and shape.
