PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the subject top roller so designed that, in a bearing support part for supporting a pair of bearings, only the portion supporting the bearing on the tip side is elongated so as to raise the rigidity of the bearing support part for a shaft and prevent the bearing support part for the shaft from bending even if a large load is applied in drafting a sliver or in mounting or handling the top roller. SOLUTION: This top roller in a drafting machine is such one as to be mounted, via a pair of bearings with the same outer diameter, on a shaft 13; wherein the shaft end portion is in a stepped fashion, the 1st bearing 14d is mounted on the larger diameter portion of the shaft foot, and the 2nd bearing 14c which is smaller in inner diameter than the 1st bearing is mounted on the elongated portion of the shaft tip.
