PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a photopolymerization initiator used for photocurable resin compositions which have good curability and give non-yellowing cured products by simultaneously using a hydroxy lower alkylphenone compound and a specific compound. SOLUTION: This photopolymerization initiator comprises (A) a hydroxy lower alkylphenone compound (for example, 1-hydroxycyclohexylphenylketone) where a phenyl carbonyl group is singly bound to a carbon atom to which a hydroxyl group and two lower alkyl groups are bound, and (B) a 1,1-di lower alkoxy-1,2-diphenylethane compound (for example, 1,1-dimethoxy-1,2- diphenylethane) where a phenylcarbonyl group is singly bound to a carbon atom to which a phenyl group and two lower alkoxy groups are bound, in a component A:B weight ratio of preferably 10:1 to 1:1, more preferably 10:1 to 2:1.
