PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To assemble a spacer, precisely and easily with a sufficient fixing strength, on a prescribed position relative to an electrode of a face plate or an electron source of a rear plate. SOLUTION: This electron beam generation device has an electron source having an electron emitting element, an electron-irradiated member arranged oppositely to the electron source in a vacuum atmosphere and equipped with an electrode for controlling electrons emitted from the electron source, and a spacer 13 installed in an image forming region 12 located between a region in the electron source where electrons are emitted and a region in the electron- irradiated member where electrons are irradiated. A fixing means of the spacer 13 comprising a positioning member 14 for positioning the spacer 13 relative to the electron source or the electron-irradiated member, and a pushing member 11 for fixing the spacer 13 on the positioning member 14, is installed outside the image forming region 12.
