PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cooling method and a cooling device in a rotary carriage type heat treatment furnace where the treating capacity is improved by cooling speed enhancement. SOLUTION: In the cooling method of the rotary carriage 1 type heat treatment furnace, in which coils 3 to be treated are laid on the rotary carriage 1 and a muffle 4 is covered on a treating material, and a heating zone, cooling zone in the furnace and a natural cooling zone at outside of the furnace are passed through while the rotary carriage is moved in order to execute the hot-treatment at the cooling zone in the furnace, the furnace temp. at the outside of the muffle is adjusted to indirectly cool the coil treated from the outside of the muffle. In the natural cooling zone at the outside of the furnace, cooling atmospheric gas is positively introduced into the muffle and circulated, thereby the coils treated is directly cooled to enhance the cooling speed of the coils treated.
