An electromechanical wheel-brake device (10) for a motor vehicle, comprising an electric motor (32) which drives a screw mechanism (18) which presses a friction brake lining (14) against a brake body (16), whereby a shiftable frictionally engaged clutch is arranged between the electric motor (32) and the screw mechanism (18) and the clutch (38) is disengaged once a predefined braking force is attained, thus decoupling the electric engine (32) from the screw mechanism (18), in order to prevent the wheel-brake device (10) from exceeding the desired braking force as a result of the rotating masses of the electric motor (32).
