PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To discriminate whether respective image information sets received by a receiver side are image information for a front side of a double-side original or image information for a rear side of the original. SOLUTION: This image communication unit is provided with read circuits 10, 12, that respectively read and transmit images in both front and rear sides of an original. Information denoting the front side is added to image information read from the front side of the original, and information denoting the rear side is added to image information read from the rear side of the original, and these image information to which the information above is added is transmitted. Furthermore, page numbers are added to the image information, together with the information denoting the front side or the rear side, and the resulting image information is transmitted.
