PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which reduces the time from setting of an original until a copy is printed and of which the operability is enhanced. SOLUTION: When an original sensor 30c senses that an original is set to a placement plate of automatic document feeder ADF, a read section 30 starts reading the original. When a ten-key 29a provided to an operation section 29 designates the number of copies after starting reading of the original, designated number of copies are copied on sheets of recording paper of a recording section 31. The read section 30 is provided with an image processing circuit 30b, which reads an original at a high resolution mode and separates an image area, in response to a characteristics of the original image data and performs binary processing in matching with each image area.
