PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image input device by increasing repetition accuracy in the sub-scanning direction so as to input an image with resolution enhanced more than the original resolution. SOLUTION: This image input device uses a motor for a drive source to move an optical unit 107 to read an image on an original D. In the case of repetitively reading the original D by the optical unit 107 from the same read position, a system controller stores a position at which preceding read is started and a drive state of the motor at that time, and a return quantity of the optical unit 107 is decided on the basis of the storage result. Thus, the repetition accuracy in the sub-scanning direction is enhanced and the image is received, with a resolution enhanced more than the original resolution of the image input device.
