PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the transmission gear ratio of a multiple stage transmission geometric progression and further facilitates its speed changing operation. SOLUTION: This multiple stage transmission has an input side sub- transmission 10, a main transmission 11, and an output side sub-transmission 12. The input side sub-transmission 10 has a fluid coupling 15, a planetary gear train 16 disposed on an output portion of the fluid coupling 15, and a first clutch C1 and a first braking device B1 for changing over power transmitting paths of the fluid coupling 15 and the planetary gear train 16 in a dual stage manner. The main transmission 11 receives an output of the input side sub-transmission 10 to perform the plural stage speed changing. The output side sub-transmission 12 has a planetary gear train 35, and a second clutch C2 and a second brake B2 for changing over power transmitting paths of planetary gear train 35 in a dual stage manner.
