PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a uniform appearance even under the etching condition of high speed without generating copper substitution even in the case copper is intruded into a soln. by incorporating nitric acid, acetylene alcohol or the alkylene oxide additive thereof as effective components into an etching agent. SOLUTION: Into an etching agent used for pretreatment at the time of executing plating onto an iron-nickel alloy, as effective components, nitric acid and acetylene alcohol or the alkylene oxide additive thereof are incorporated. The acetylene alcohol is selected from propargyl alcohol, butynediol and pentynediol or hexynediol. The molar number to be added to alkylene oxide to acetylene alcohol is preferably controlled to 0.5 to 4. The suitable concn. range of nitric acid is 10 to 500 ml/l. The suitable concn. range of acetylene alcohol and the ethylene oxide additive thereof is 0.1 to 50 g/l. This etching agent is, if required, incorporated with amines.
