Amino-substituted naphthalenesulfonic acid N-phenylamide derivatives (I) are new. Amino-substituted naphthalenesulfonic acid N-phenylamide derivatives of formula (I) and their salts are new. R1 = H or 1-6C alkanoyl; R2 = alkyl substituted by saturated heterocyclyl; or -COR4, -SO2R5, -COOR6, -S(O)R7 or -C(=NH)R8, or R1, R2 = H if A or D = alkylsulfonyl, or NR1R2 = saturated or unsaturated ring containing upto 6C, one or two ring C optionally being replaced by 1 or 2 of O, S, SO, CO and NR16 and the ring optionally being fused with a benzo ring; R4 = alkyl (optionally substituted by NH2, alkoxycarbonylamino or saturated heterocyclyl), aromatic heterocyclyl, cycloalkyl, alkoxy or NR9R10; R9, R10 = H, alkyl (optionally substituted by 1-3 of halo, OH, COOH and alkoxy), 7-20C alkyl or phenyl (optionally substituted by COOH), or NR9R10 = saturated or unsaturated ring containing upto 7C, one or two ring C optionally being replaced by 1 or 2 of O, S, SO, CO and NR11; R11 = H or alkyl; R5 = 1-8C alkyl (optionally substituted by CF3, C2F5 or saturated heterocyclyl), cycloalkyl or NR12R13; R12, R13 = alkyl, or NR12R13 = saturated or unsaturated ring containing upto 6C, one or two ring C optionally being replaced by 1 or 2 of O, S, SO, CO and NR11; R6 = R15OCH2CH2OCH2CH2-, saturated heterocyclyl (optionally substituted by alkyl) or alkyl (optionally substituted by OH, alkoxy or saturated, unsaturated or aromatic heterocyclyl); R7, R15 = alkyl; R8 = NH2 or mono- or dialkylamino; R16 = H, alkyl (optionally substituted by halo) or 1-6C alkanoyl (optionally substituted by 1-3 halo); R3 = NHCOR17 or -CONHR17; R17 = alkyl (optionally substituted by 1-3 of OH, halo or (1-4C) alkoxycarbonyl), and A, D, E, G = H, halo, NO2,. CN, OH, COOH, CF3, OCF3. alkyl, alkoxy, 1-6C alkanoyloxy, alkoxycarbonyl or alkylsulfonyl; unless specified otherwise alkyl moieties have 1-6C and cycloalkyl moieties 3-7C; heterocyclyl groups are 5- or 6-membered and contain 1-3 of O, S and N as heteroatom(s).
