PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a repellent for dogs and cats having excellent repelling effects, safety and no unpleasant smell and friendly to the environment. SOLUTION: A repellent comprising an organic acid such as preferably citric acid, malic acid, adipic acid, tartaric acid, fumaric acid, succinic acid, itaconic acid, L-ascorbic acid, or the like, admitted as food additives or its alkali metal salt or alkaline earth metal salt as a main component is applied or sprayed. Preferably the organic acid or its salt is a powdery state and has low water solubility.
