PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the safety, when loading a wheelchair, of an escalator having at least one or more steps with treads lifted up and down or tilted partly or wholly for loading the wheelchair when the wheelchair is transported. SOLUTION: This escalator comprises a support bar 27 installed on a tilted part 22 under a tread 4a of a first step 4 and projecting toward the inside of a second step 5 when a wheelchair is transported and a support roller 28 installed inside the second step 5 and supporting the support bar 27 to support the tilted part 22. The shape of the portion of the support bar 27 in contact with the support roller 28 is formed so as to become an arc-shape B about the rear end C of the tread 4a of the tilted part 22 in the state that the support bar 27 is projected so that the rear end C of the step 4a of the tilted part 22 is always aligned with the front end of a tread 5a of the step 5 in order to prevent a height difference and a variation in clearance from producing between the steps 4 and 5 without utilizing the tilt angle of the tread 4a.
