PURPOSE: A method for controlling engine is provided to achieve an enhanced engine startability by performing the injection according to the value which is compensated with a coolant temperature, the rpms of the engine, time, and the gain when the engine restart. CONSTITUTION: A method for controlling engine comprises checking a crank position sensor and other devices when an engine cylinder is not recognized in the starting state of the engine; performing the injected value of fuel with considering a coolant temperature, the rpms of the engine, and time after the first injection; checking the engine related portion when the rpms of the engine is less than the specific value, or injecting the fuel with considering a coolant temperature, the rpms of the engine, and time when the rpms of the engine is not less than the specific value and detecting the rpms of the engine when the rpms of the engine is more than the predetermined value; controlling the engine under the normal mode when the detected rpms of the engine is more than the predetermined rpms of the engine; controlling the injected value of the fuel with the compensation value according to the coolant temperature, the rpms of the engine, time, the gain when the rpms of the engine is less than the specific rpms of the engine; and controlling the injected amount of fuel with the compensation value according to the coolant temperature, the rpms of the engine, time, and the gain when the rpms of the engine is more than the specific rpms of the engine.
